40 DAYS OF PRAYER & FASTING | UNTIL NOVEMBER 8, 2016

This prayer guide will help to focus our prayers as we begin 40 days of prayer and fasting for America. Use this guide in your prayer times this week.

Jesus is the only answer to our nation’s problems. A Great Awakening is the only answer to a nation that has gone away from its biblical roots. No politician has the answers for our nation, but we must pray for godly leadership in every position of authority. We must cry out for another Jesus Movement to sweep across out nation and people turn to the Lord. The Word says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12).

Personal and corporate repentance

Before we begin in intercession, it’s good to inspect our own hearts and come clean before the Lord. Take time to confess and repent to God of any sins in your life. Then, from a national perspective, repent for rejecting God as a nation, and for the removal of God in our education systems and government.

“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.” Ps. 51:1-3 (NKJ)

Intercession topic for this week: Family & Church

FAMILY

“Choose you this day whom ye will serve…as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:15

  • Pray for God to build faith foundations in families, that they will pray together, worship together, have a love for God and for one another.
  • Pray for marriages to be strengthened and homes to be Christ-centered. For the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman to be valued by the society as a whole in spite of the U.S. Supreme Court wrong decision.
  • Pray for the institution of the family as a whole and for individual families within your circle of influence that may be struggling.
  • Pray for single parents that are struggling to raise their children.
  • Pray for the hearts of the parents to be turned to their children and the hearts of the children to their parents.
  • Pray for prodigal sons and daughters to return to God and their families.
  • Pray for any gang strongholds throughout the nation to be broken and gang members to come to Christ.

CHURCH

“And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 16:18-19

  • Pray for the Church in America to be what God wants it to be, a place that pursues God’s Presence through prayer, worship and the Word, that desires to equip people to know Jesus and make Him known and where people are drawn to make Christ their Savior and Lord.
  • Pray for pastors, their spouses and families to be strengthened and not to grow weary; that they would hear the direction of the Lord and have a burning passion for prayer for their city, state and nation to transformed.
  • Pray for your church and its leaders, asking God to grant them wisdom and vision to make the Church a vessel for healing and revival in America.
  • Pray for unity across denominational and racial barriers, for pastors to carry other pastors and congregations in their heart and to reach out with the love of Christ.
  • Pray for boldness in the church to preach the Gospel and the harvest to come in and a mighty revival sweep the nation.
  • Protection for the Persecuted Church worldwide, for protection and strength as they live for Jesus.

What is the Highest Calling of the Church?

Throughout history, both in America and abroad, movements of prayer have released explosive spiritual awakening. From the early Church in the book of Acts to the Great Awakenings to the Jesus Movement in the 1970’s, God’s chief aim has been made known again and again: to reveal and glorify His Son Jesus.

These “Jesus movements” revolutionized millions of lives. Joy and deliverance flooded many hearts as they encountered this Man Jesus. Oppression and addiction fled, as multitudes became apprehended by an authentic relationship with Jesus and discovered the power of a higher affection. As loving Jesus (Mt. 22:37) became the anthem of these generations, sharing a Gospel-witness of His worth became the overflow of their lives.

Time and time again, the revelation of Jesus has sent spiritual shockwaves across America and throughout the earth. Millions of dollars have been spent trying to impact this emerging generation. But if a generation is perishing, surely it is not perishing for lack of novel methods and relevant presentation. We need something from heaven. We need a deep encounter with the Man Jesus.

The Highest Calling of the Church

Encountering Jesus is the highest calling of the Church. He is the Desire of All Nations (Hag. 2:7). He is only solution for the raging nations (Ps. 2:1-2). He is the only Hope for crisis in America.

Undoubtedly, there is no one like Jesus.

He turned the world upside down in three short years of ministry. His presence sparked the atmosphere of Heaven wherever He went. Revival or revolution followed immediately after. The religious hated Him. Sinners loved Him. His healing power, miracles, signs and wonders caught the attention of religious and political leaders. Whatever He did demanded a response. He amazed crowds (Mt. 9:33); stunned scholars (Lk. 2:46); brought dead men to life (Jn. 11:33-34).

The fame of Jesus’ name spread like wildfire across many regions and ever since then He has been divinely initiating movements of spiritual awakening throughout Church history, wherever He finds hearts that are hungry for more of Him. He forever will be our Savior, Great High Priest, Bridegroom, King and Judge.

Indicators of Revival Approaching: (Excerpt by Charles Finney)

I’m currently in Boston, MA with 70 students, praying for awakening on the Ivy League campuses. I have always had a great interest in the topic of “awakening” – awakening on the scale of the First and Second Great Awakenings. I am drawn to the writings of the “Awakening Greats” such as Jonathan Edwards, George Whitefield, Charles Finney and the like. There have also been great movements in a our nations history such as Azusa Street and the Healing Revivals of the 50’s, the Jesus Movement where God opened hearts and ushered in awakening and great harvest that interest me.

The question remains, what is awakening? Is it possible for us to experience awakening today? I’m convinced the answer to that question is, Yes!
