40 DAYS OF PRAYER & FASTING | UNTIL NOVEMBER 8, 2016

This prayer guide will help to focus our prayers as we are in 40 days of prayer and fasting for America. Use this guide in your prayer times this week.

Jesus is the only answer to our nation’s problems. A Great Awakening is the only answer to a nation that has gone away from its biblical roots. No politician has the answers for our nation, but we must pray for godly leadership in every position of authority. We must cry out for another Jesus Movement to sweep across out nation and people turn to the Lord. The Word says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12).

Personal and corporate repentance

Before we begin in intercession, it’s good to inspect our own hearts and come clean before the Lord. Take time to confess and repent to God of any sins in your life. Then, from a national perspective, repent for rejecting God as a nation, and for the removal of God in our education systems and government.

“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.” Ps. 51:1-3 (NKJ)

Intercession topic for this week: Government & Military

GOVERNMENT

“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NIV)

  • Pray for President Obama, Vice President Biden, and the Cabinet members for wisdom, discernment and guidance from the Lord. Pray for their spouses and family members.
  • Pray for the next President and Vice President that will be elected on Nov. 8th, for pro-life, pro-family, pro-Israel leaders to be elected.
  • Pray that our leaders have God’s strategies as they deal with world leaders on difficult issues that effort the entire world (Israel, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Russia, Venezuela, North Korea, Pakistan and other countries).
  • Pray for that any terrorists’ plots will be uncovered and stopped. Pray that ISIS is defeated.
  • Pray for members of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives. Pray for them to vote for pro- family, pro-life, pro-Israel legislation. Pray for members who know the Lord to be strengthened and those who don’t to be saved. Pray for their spouses, families and staff.
  • Pray that our leaders to stand up for religious liberties and freedom in this nation. Christianity is increasingly under attack. Pray for members of the Congressional Prayer Caucus who are fighting for religious freedom in our Nation’s Capitol and Legislative Prayer Caucuses in the states that are taking a stand for religious freedom.
  • Pray for the U.S. Supreme Court Justices to not legislate laws but to interpret them correctly and to vote in favor of restricting abortion and eventually overturning Roe v Wade. Pray that the next U.S. Supreme Court Justices and FL Supreme Court Justices that are appointed will be pro-life, pro-family justices.
  • Pray for Governor Rick Scott, Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera, Cabinet Members, Agency Heads, all state, county and city leaders for wisdom, discernment and guidance from the Lord and do what is right before God.
  • Pray for Florida Senate President and members of the FL Senate and Florida Speaker of the FL House and Members of the FL House of Representatives. Pray for them to vote for pro-family, pro-life legislation; for those who know the Lord to be strengthened and those who don’t to be saved. Pray for their spouses, families and staff.
  • Pray for the Florida Supreme Court Justices to not legislate laws but to interpret them correctly and have wisdom.
  • Pray that any seats that open on the FL Supreme Court to be filled with pro-life, pro-family justices.
  • Pray for anything done in darkness to be exposed by the light of the Holy Spirit.
  • Pray for leaders to have reverence for and fear of the Lord and to fight for religious freedom in this nation.
  • Pray for government leaders to publicly acknowledge their sin and dependence on God.
  • Pray for godly, pro-family, pro-life leaders to be elected in 2016 to city, state and national positions of government.
  • Pray for all members of law enforcement and emergency responders for protection and strength. Pray for their families. Pray for families who have lost their loved ones in the line of duty.

MILITARY

“The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them.” Psalm 34:7 (NKJ)
“Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; defend me from those who rise up against me.” Psalm 59:1 (NKJ)

  • Pray for protection for our men and women in uniform, for strength and for their minds to stay clear and their spirits to be uplifted.
  • Pray for our military leaders to have wisdom, discernment, and insight into the enemies’ activities as they fight terrorism in our country, around the world and in the Middle East. Wisdom to defeat ISIS.
  • Pray for the President, for the Secretary of Defense, and for the Joint Chiefs of Staff that God will guide them and give them military strategies.
  • Pray for the spouses and families of those in the military for strength, protection, and endurance as they wait the return of their loved ones, and for God’s provision and protection. Pray for those who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.
  • Pray for the troops to have hope, peace, and God’s comfort as they fight for our freedom and the freedom of others around the world.
  • Pray for those who don’t know the Lord to be saved and those that are saved in the military to boldly share Him with others.
  • Pray for military chaplains to boldly pray in Jesus’ name with the troops and not be reprimanded.

Where were you in life before taking the internship?

Before taking the internship, I was extremely passionate for the Lord but had little knowledge of Him or what to do with my zeal. I knew I wanted to encounter Him on a daily basis and operate out of a close relationship with Him, but I had no idea how to start.

Why did you take the internship?

One day I realized that the steps I needed to take required the first step of making a commitment to be consecrated before Him by taking the internship and joining staff in a full time capacity. When I realized I would be in the perfect environment every day to build closeness with Jesus, my heart leapt with joy!

What did God accomplish in your heart during the internship?

During my time of being an intern and staff, I confronted many false beliefs about God that I had unknowingly agreed with. I thought that He was just too hard to please, that He didn’t care about how I felt, and that I had to fight to win His approval & affections. There were months that I felt myself striving through, while He was inviting me to rest and receive. The most important thing I learned about Him was that I can get to know Him the way I get to know anybody– spending time with Him and spending my life speaking with Him. I didn’t have to try so hard to achieve something when I was with Him, I just had to enjoy Him.

Where were you in life before taking the internship?

At the time — I wasn’t fully aware of it — but I was a mess living a very godless life. I was sincere in my desire to want to love God, but my life was full of pursuing other desires that contradicted my desire to love God.

What desires were you pursuing?

I wasted a lot of time hanging out with friends, online, and just generally wasting time. In retrospect, I know I was trying to pacify a longing that I now know was meant to be satisfied in God.

What was the turning point that made you decide to take the internship?

I saw other believers living a life of passionate love for God and for people, and I wanted to live that same lifestyle. Before that, I had only seen a very shallow Christianity: people who professed to love Jesus, but never really lived it. I was in that same group of people. God has been bringing me out of that mindset and daily calls me into living a life of surrender.

Where were you in life before taking the internship?

Before I took the Relentless internship I had just graduated from nursing school. I lived in another city and as I finished school, I felt God leading me to Tallahassee—which I assumed meant He wanted me to work as a nurse here in town! I was most definitely in a short and intense season of transition. Simultaneously, the Lord was awakening a serious hunger in my heart (I had reread Appointment in Jerusalem by Derek Prince) and I was very eager to learn how to pray. I heard that there was this place called the “house of prayer” where people could come to pray—I was very curious!

What made you decide to take the internship?

Previously, one of the major motivators to press on while in school was to imagine myself as a confident, competent nurse. But now, that future began to leave me unhappy and in search of ‘more’ from my life. I wondered if there was a job where my title would be: Jesus’ Best Friend. It was all of these swirling changes that lead me to take the internship.

Name a few things God accomplished in your heart during the internship?

What a summer! I knew very little about myself and probably even less about God. I grew up in church but was full of false ideas about God’s heart and His love. Unfortunately, I was under the impression that God only loved us because He was a nice guy and was putting up with us ‘pathetic sinners’. But what joy I experienced as I began to believe that He likes us (even now, this truth amazes me) and enjoys our company. When this reality began to strike my heart, prayer became a joy, because I could approach God from a place of security and confidence, knowing He enjoys even the sound of my voice.
